Abstract

The invention discloses a device comprising a network element (NE) for receiving Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) data packets in version 4 Internet protocol (IPv4) format and converting said data packets into Internet version 6 Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) data packets in protocol (IPv6) format, and forwarding the converted data packets. The invention also discloses a device, which includes a NE, used for receiving MLD data packet in IPv6 format, and converting the data packet into IGMP data packet in IPv4 format. The invention also discloses a method, comprising receiving a plurality of data packets, wherein the plurality of data packets include an IGMP data packet and an MLD data packet; converting at least one of the IGMP data packets into an MLD data packet; and converting at least one of the Convert MLD packets into IGMP packets.
