Problems solved by technology

However, while high-reliability single-emitter laser sources cooled with standard cooling plates can replace microchannel cooling strips in high-power harness systems, the possibility of this application is typically not considered as an option , because a reduction in the total number of laser sources increases the likelihood of inconsistencies in the beam due to self-interference (or coherence) effects between sources

Abstract

A harness system includes a single-emitter light engine including a plurality of independent spaced-apart single-emitter diode lasers, each emitter configured to emit a diode laser beam. Beam spacing optics are optically coupled to the single emitter light engine and configured to provide the propagation axis of the diode laser beam in a dense parallel configuration. A light pipe having a longitudinal axis is arranged to provide an exit beam having a uniform intensity distribution along one or more axes by receiving a dense combined light beam and reflecting the light beam in the light pipe. Coherence reduction is achieved by diffracting the densely combined beam or by propagation in a light pipe.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application 61 / 935962, filed February 5, 2014, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0002] The present disclosure relates to high power laser beam systems. Background technique [0003] Conventional beam generators are typically based on stacks of microchannel-cooled laser diode bars and suffer from a number of reliability issues. Some issues include corrosion and leaks in microchannel coolers, leaks around O-rings or other seals, and movement or misalignment of fast-axis collimation (FAC) optics over time. figure 1 A conventional laser bar based line beam generator 100 is shown comprising 14 diode laser bars 112 each with 63 emitters for a total of 882 diode laser beams. Additionally, to form the laser line exit beam 119, a fast axis collimating lens, comb filter, polarizer and monolith assembly 116, and other line beam optics are required, including a Uniform light g...
