Embodiment Construction

[0108] see in general Figure 1A to Figure 1C , the intramedullary fixation assembly 4 may include a bone fixation device, and the device may be configured as the intramedullary fixation device 1 . The term "intramedullary" is known in the art and means that the nail is located at least partially in the medullary canal of the bone. The intramedullary fixation device 1 may generally be elongated along a central axis 14 . For example, the central axis 14, and thus the intramedullary fixation device 1, may be arcuate or generally curvilinear along its elongated direction. The intramedullary fixation device 1 is configured to be positioned in the medullary canal 3 of a long bone such as the radius 5 including a shaft 25 and a head or articular fragment 15 extending distally from the shaft 25 .

[0109] According to the illustrated embodiment, the intramedullary fixation device 1 is sized and configured to extend across the fracture site 7 disposed between the shaft 25 and the ar...

Abstract

The invention discloses an intramedullary fixation assembly (4, 8) and an intramedullary fixation device (1, 24) which can be used to fix a fracture in orthopedic surgery. The invention also discloses an insertion device (30) for inserting an intramedullary fixation device, and a method for fixing a fracture. The fixation device is preferably used to locate a fracture of the distal radius, and is preferably a styloid screw. The styloid screw preferably has a head portion that accepts up to three bone screws; one of the bone screws is designed to extend across the fracture line between the proximal and distal bone fragments and the other bone Screws are designed to be retained in the distal bone fragment.

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 793,044, filed March 11, 2013, which claims U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 695,254, filed August 30, 2012 and November 2012 The benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 723,016 filed on the 6th, the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to intramedullary fixation devices, methods for fixing fractures, and devices for inserting intramedullary fixation devices. Background technique [0004] The use of intramedullary fixation devices to fix fractures is known in the art of orthopedics. Using those nails known in the art, the surgeon would have to make multiple skin incisions and drill multiple bone holes in order to implant the nails. This results in a lengthy, complicated procedure requiring multiple instruments and c...
