Abstract

The present invention relates to a bone repair system, kit and method for percutaneous repair of a bone segment comprising a first bone segment and a second bone segment of a patient, each bone segment having a bore hole. The system (1) includes a bone segment configured to contact the first bone segment and the second bone segment and having at least one opening (11, 12) and adapted to contact the first bone segment and the second bone segment. Longitudinal member (4) of cleat (5) on said side of two bone segments; configured to be displaceable through said opening of said longitudinal member to pass through said opening in said first bone segment and a first fastener assembly (6) that holds the longitudinal member in place with the hole; and configured to be disposed through the opening of the longitudinal member to pass through the second bone segment Said opening and said hole of said second fastener assembly (7) holding said longitudinal member in place.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application does not claim the benefit of any other application. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to systems, kits and methods for repairing broken or chipped bones, such as ribs. Background technique [0004] Chest wall fractures, and specifically, rib cage fractures can cause potentially life-threatening hypopnea, which accounts for up to 50% of chest injury mortality. Rib fractures can occur anywhere along the bone. Most rib fractures are treated conservatively using pain management and / or bracing techniques, but the pain experienced by the patient during the healing period can often be severe and last for one to two months. Furthermore, fractured ribs in flail chest (a condition that occurs when a minimum of three adjacent ribs fracture) treated in this manner can undergo progressive displacement during the healing phase, resulting in significant deformity, loss of volume, pulmonary ins...
