Embodiment Construction

[0414] An aspect of some embodiments relates to an endoscope having a tip section equipped with two or more viewing elements. According to one embodiment, one of said viewing elements is located at the distal end of the tip section and points forward, and the remaining viewing elements are located more rearwardly in the tip section and point sideways.

[0415] According to another embodiment, one of said viewing elements is located at the distal (front) face of the tip section and points forward, the remaining viewing elements are located more rearwardly in the tip section and point sideways.

[0416] According to another embodiment, two or more viewing elements (e.g. three, four or more) are located near or at the distal end of the tip section and are directed sideways so that The field of view provided by these viewing elements covers front and side views. Even in such a configuration, according to some embodiments, there is no viewing element arranged at the distal (front)...

Abstract

An interface unit is configured to functionally associate with an endoscope system which includes at least two simultaneously operating imaging channels associated with at least two displays, respectively. In a first configuration, the interface unit includes an image processor functionally associated with the at least two imaging channels which is configured to separately synchronize images and image data received simultaneously from the at least two imaging channels and send those discrete image streams to different displays. In a second configuration, the interface unit includes an image processor functionally associated with the at least two imaging channels which is configured to receive image streams, synchronize the image streams, and create a single image stream to send to a display.
