Embodiment Construction

[0016] The present disclosure is applicable to drywall or other wallboard joints, and more particularly, to joint tapes used in composite joint constructions comprising tapes embedded in one or more types of joint compounds. Various embodiments are described herein with respect to joint strips for drywall, but it should be appreciated that the structures and methods for making or using joint strips are applicable to other types of wall panels as well.

[0017] exist figure 1 A cross-section of drywall joint 100 is shown in . As shown, the drywall joint 100 is a composite joint formed between two drywall panels 102 . Each panel forms a recessed section 104 along the joint edge 106 to accommodate the material making up the joint 100 such that a flat surface appears on the exterior drywall surface 108 . Joint 100 is referred to herein as a "composite" joint, which means that the joint structure is fabricated from a combination of different materials. For example, joint 100 in...

Abstract

The present invention provides a joint tape for drywall comprising a backing layer having an elongated shape in the lengthwise direction and being flexible in the lengthwise direction and in the transverse direction. The tape also includes a cover layer disposed in adhesive relationship on the substrate layer. The cover layer is rigid in the transverse direction and is configured to withstand a compressive force applied generally in the transverse direction and a shear stress applied generally in the transverse direction.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims the benefit of the filing dates of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61 / 885,881, filed October 2, 2013, and U.S. Patent Application No. 14 / 466,736, filed August 22, 2014, the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference Incorporated herein in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Typical load-bearing or separating wall assemblies in buildings are fabricated from a support structure (eg, wooden or metal studs) covered with wall panels. There are many different types of wall panels available depending on the requirements of the various applications. One type of wallboard most commonly used to construct interior walls in buildings is gypsum wallboard that is conventionally attached to studs. Gypsum wallboard is available in various standard sizes having predetermined widths such as 4 feet and predetermined lengths such as 8 feet, 10 feet or other sizes. In conventional installation...
