Abstract

[Problem] To provide an internal combustion engine in which the position of a cooling-water passage formed in a cylinder block is optimized, and a cooling-water passage can be easily machined in a cylinder head. [Solution] In an engine, a cooling-water passage is provided with: a cooling-water discharge hole (18) which is upwardly separated from a main gallery (11), and which opens to an outer wall surface (3a) of a cylinder block (3); and a guide groove (23) which communicates with the cooling-water discharge hole (18), and which is surrounded by a protrusion (22) protruding from the outer wall surface (3a) of the cylinder block (3) so as to extend in the vertical direction of the engine (2). An end (23a) of the guide groove (23) is provided in a position which is away from the cooling-water discharge hole (18), and which overlaps the main gallery (11) in a direction orthogonal to the cylinder arrangement direction. The end (23a) of the guide groove (23) is made to communicate with a cooling-water passage of an oil cooler.
