Abstract

Systems, methods and devices for dual mode wireless power receivers are disclosed. According to one aspect, an apparatus for receiving wireless power is provided. The apparatus includes a first coil configured to wirelessly receive power from a first transmitter configured to generate a first alternating magnetic field having a first frequency. The apparatus further includes a second coil configured to wirelessly receive power from a second transmitter configured to generate a second alternating magnetic field having a second frequency higher than the first frequency. The second coil is positioned to enclose the first coil. A first coupling coefficient between the first coil and a coil of the first transmitter is high when the first and second coils are positioned within respective charging regions of the first and second transmitters A second coupling coefficient between the second coil and a coil of the second transmitter.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to wireless power receiver coil configurations. More specifically, the present invention relates to systems, devices and methods for dual mode wireless power receivers. Background technique [0002] An increasing number and variety of electronic devices are powered via rechargeable batteries. Such devices include mobile phones, portable music players, laptop computers, tablet computers, computer peripherals, communication devices (eg, Bluetooth devices), digital cameras, hearing aids, and the like. While battery technology has improved, battery-powered electronic devices increasingly require and consume greater amounts of power, which in turn often require recharging. Rechargeable devices are often charged via a wired connection through a cable or other similar connector that is physically connected to a power supply. Cables and similar connectors can sometimes be inconvenient or bulky, among other disadvantag...
