Embodiment Construction

[0009] refer to figure 1 , shows a filament winding device 100 according to one non-limiting embodiment. The filament winding apparatus 100 includes a reel 102 loaded with an insulating fiber winding 104 (ie, winding strand). The insulating fiber wrap 104 may be formed from various insulating materials including, but not limited to, ceramic and glass. The conductive core is coated with a eutectic material, eg like a eutectic salt material, and is fed into the area 107 near the wrap to form the eutectic sensing element. According to one embodiment, the filament winding device 100 moves axially along the length of the core 106 while winding the insulating fiber strand 108 directly on the outer surface of the core 106 . According to another embodiment, the winding device 100 remains stationary and the fiber strands 108 are wound directly onto the outer surface of the core 106 as the core 106 is fed axially over the reel 102 .

Abstract

The invention discloses an eutectic based continuous thermal sensing element including a fiber wrapped center conductor. A eutectic sensing element includes an electrically conductive core extending along a first axis to define a length. The core is coated with a coated with a eutectic material formulated to provide desirable thermal response characteristics. The eutectic sensing element further includes an insulating fiber layer disposed on an external surface of the electrically conductive. The insulating fiber layer includes a strand that extends along the length of the electrically conductive core.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to continuous sensing elements, and more particularly, to continuous thermal sensing elements including a fiber wound center conductor. Background technique [0002] Eutectic based continuous thermal sensing elements are typically formed as coaxial elements including a central conductor such as a wire for example. Current production methods for making continuous thermal sensing elements incorporate tubular or crushed ceramic insulators as a means of isolating the center conductor from the housing or shield. However, tubular or crushed ceramic insulators are prone to inconsistent and transient performance when the sensing element is manipulated and handled during fabrication and installation. Contents of the invention [0003] According to one non-limiting embodiment, a eutectic sensing element includes a conductive core extending along a first axis so as to define a length. The core is coated with a eutectic ...
