Abstract

The present disclosure provides articles comprising a macroporous wound dressing material and a micropleated microporous wound contact layer. The wound dressing material is coupled to and / or substantially surrounded by the wound contact layer. The average pore size of the microporous layer is less than or equal to about 90 µm. The present disclosure also provides methods of treating wounds using micropleated microporous wound contact layers and macroporous wound dressing materials.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 971,679, filed March 28, 2014, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0003] Wound healing is an essential repair process. Dressing wounds has been shown to utilize appropriate materials that aid in the natural regenerative process. Conventionally, such materials have been made from cotton fibers such as gauze. These dressings benefit the healing process because they insulate damaged tissue from external contaminants and because they absorb potentially harmful wound exudates. Devices and dressings that provide a moist wound environment for improved healing have been found to be useful. [0004] Negative pressure therapy has been used to facilitate the removal of exudate from the wound area. When suction is applied to a gauze wound dressing, the dressing is compressed into a flat s...
