The method comprises the steps of receiving a query message of a client in a local monitoring area for checking front end devices in other monitoring area; querying the video management server of the other monitoring area; informing a streaming media server in the local monitoring area of sending a video stream in a multicast mode according to a feedback notice message after the unicast video stream of the streaming media server in the other monitoring area is received; and informing the client in the local monitoring area of receiving the multicast stream, wherein the client is the client which checks the front end devices of the other monitoring area. The device provided by the invention comprises a query module, a control module and a feedback module. According to the method and the device, cross-domain multicast can be realized under the condition that a terminal device supports multicast.
