Abstract

The invention provides a method for complexity control in HEVC coding by employing a prediction mode. The method includes following steps: performing statistics on the complexity of each coding unit prediction mode in a first GOP, calculating the ratio of the complexity of each prediction mode, and obtaining different thresholds through different coding unit prediction modes; distributing target complexities to each frame in a to-be-coded GOP in an average manner; and distributing the complexities to remaining coding tree units in an average manner, and updating the remaining complexities after accomplishment of coding, wherein each coding tree unit selects combination of the coding unit prediction modes according to the distributed complexity. According to the method, the introduction of extra complexity is avoided, special training video sequences are not needed, direct coding can be performed on any video, the dynamic range of complexity control is large, the fluctuation is small, and complexity control in a certain range of GDP grade can be realized.
