Background technique [0001] Chlorhexidine (chlorhexidine) has been known since more than two decades as the gold standard for antiplaque and antimicrobial activity. [0002] Due to its mechanism of competition with calcium ions, chlorhexidine is in fact able to inhibit the formation of new plaque (plaque) and to break down the layer already deposited on the tooth surface acting on its matrix. [0003] Chlorhexidine-based mouthwashes are very useful in the treatment of periodontal lesions and for enhancing the postoperative healing process.
