Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for providing an improved success rate for connection re-establishment in a cellular communication system. Embodiments of a radio access node in a cellular communication system are disclosed which enable connection re-establishment of a wireless device to a target cell controlled by the radio access node. In some embodiments, the radio access node is operative to: (a) perform acquisition of the wireless device from two or more candidate source cells for the wireless device in response to a connection re-establishment request from the wireless device wireless device context acquisition of context, and (b) receiving wireless device context from at least one candidate source cell of the two or more candidate source cells for the wireless device in response to performing the wireless device context acquisition. By performing multiple context acquisitions, the radio access node alleviates the problem of physical cell identifier ambiguity.
