A filter assembly (10) may include a canister (14) and a filter cartridge (16) received in the canister. The cartridge may include filter media (126) configured to facilitate separation of a first fluid from a second fluid having a different characteristic than the first fluid as the fluid passes through the filter media. The cartridge may further include a first endshield (92), a second endshield (116), and a tubular member (114) extending between the first endshield and the second endshield. The filter assembly may further include a flow shield (32) associated with the first end shield of the cartridge. The flow hood may include: an inlet portion (54) configured to provide fluid communication between the inlet aperture (38) of the filter base (12) and the tubular member of the filter cartridge; and an outlet portion (58) configured to is configured to provide fluid communication between the outlet aperture (40) of the filter base and the outer portion (52) of the filter media.
