This invention discloses a cost-effective process for separating contaminants and a wide-range of fouling material from surface water, ground water and from industrial effluents. Having undergone effective pre-treatment, the water can be purified further by using high-surface area spirally wound micro-filtration (MF), ultra-filtration (UF), nano-filtration (NF) or reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. High-quality potable water free from pathogen and other contaminants is thus produced at low-cost from the pre-treated surface water and ground-water. Conversely, pre-treated industrial effluents are further purified at a relatively low-cost using NF or RO membranes, thus producing water suitable for recycle or surface discharge. The process of this invention uses cationic inorganic and / or polymeric flocculants to coagulate and flocculate the water-borne colloidal matter (e.g. clays, iron hydroxides, naturally occurring matter (NOM's), etc.), followed by filtration using a multi-media filter, charge neutralization and reversal and final filtration using a 5-micron cartridge filter. These pre-treatment steps provides a good quality water having a low Silt Density Index and a significant negative zeta potential, thereby ensuring against irreversible chemical fouling of the spirally-wound membranes.

A filter assembly is provided having a housing and a cover that communicate to retain a filter element. The housing has a top and a bottom spaced apart from each other, and a first pair of guide members is maintained beneath the top while a second pair of guide members is maintained above the bottom. The filter element is retained in the housing between the first and second pair of guide members thereby defining a first cavity between the top and the filter element and a second cavity between the bottom and the filter element. Fasteners, such as screws, rivets, nails and the like, may communicate with the cavities without damaging the filter element. The first and second pair of guide members allow for access to the internal surface area of the top and bottom of the housing such that fasteners or other installment means can be employed from the inside of the housing outwardly to the duct work or framework to which the filter assembly is to be attached.

Disclosed herein is a cooling system for vehicle battery packs, including a double filter device mounted at an air inlet part, through which air for cooling the battery pack is introduced from the outside and / or the inside of the vehicle. The double filter includes a pre-filter having relatively large air holes, the pre-filter having high frequency of replacement, and a medium filter having relatively small air holes, the medium filter having low frequency of replacement. The pre-filter is located before the medium filter in the direction in which the air is introduced. Consequently, dust is removed from air, and therefore, the cooling efficiency of the battery pack is increased. In a preferred structure, metal dust is also effectively removed by the magnetic force applied to the medium filter. Consequently, the malfunction or short circuits of the battery pack are prevented. Also, air surrounding the battery pack is directly introduced through the through-type intake ports without passing through any pipe-shaped intake duct. Consequently, generation of noise, which is a problem caused when air in the cabin is used, and backward flow of flames and toxic gas, which are generated during a fire, are prevented. Furthermore, the battery pack is constructed in a compact structure.

The treatment process comprises the following steps: firstly, enabling bearing production wastewater to enter an oil-separation adjusting tank; separating floating oil in the wastewater and agitating uniformly; then lifting the wastewater into a cavitation air floatation system to remove suspension matters and petroleum in the wastewater; conveying the wastewater treated by the cavitation air floatation system into an iron-carbon micro-electrolysis reactor and carrying out a Fenton reagent and iron-carbon micro-electrolysis combined oxidation reaction to reduce chemical oxygen demand and improve the ratio value of biochemical oxygen demand / chemical oxygen demand of the wastewater; conveying the wastewater reacted in the iron-carbon micro-electrolysis reactor into a coagulation precipitation tank, adjusting the pH (Potential of Hydrogen) and carrying out a coagulation and flocculation reaction; enabling reacted liquid supernatant to flow into a middle water pond to sequentially enter a UASB (Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed / Blanket) anaerobic reaction tank, a CASS (Cyclic Activated Sludge System) reaction tank and a water discharging tank and filtering by a multi-medium filter; discharging after the water reaches standards. The treatment process is simple in management and good in wastewater treatment effect; a sludge expansion problem which usually and easily occurs in a traditional active sludge method is overcome; the water can be discharged after the water quality reaches the standards and the treatment process is good for protecting the ecological environment.
