Problems solved by technology

Still others will not be able to use the device properly which gives inaccurate results
Even for patients who use monitoring devices correctly, consistently, and long-term, this partial solution still does not allow for early monitoring of medical conditions as monitoring devices are prescribed after the problem already exists
For these reasons, home surveillance often fails to provide accurate medical assessments when the user is actively asked to perform the surveillance, especially over longer periods of time
[0005] Further still, current medical measures are adversely affected by inherent variability in populations, and thus inherently difficult when attempting to calibrate individual health measures

[0017] overview

[0018] Described herein are techniques and devices that enable the determination of health states that allow detection of disease progression, as well as trends in these states. By frequently assessing a patient's health status relative to the timescale of disease progression, health trends can be identified and used to manage patient health. The information is not only valuable to the patient's medical professionals because of its accuracy and robustness, but also because it provides the patient with real data about them. Unlike averages, demographics, or generalized predictions from medical professionals, the data associated with them are more likely to prompt patients to take action to maintain or improve their own health. Assessing users or patients while they are in a similar state, such as deep sleep or during exercise, facilitates comparisons between individual measures and reduces the need to calibrate health measures and models to the individual.

Abstract

This document describes techniques and apparatuses enabling determination of health state trends for a consistent patient situation. Various noninvasive health monitors can be used to sense a patient's situation and health states, including disease progression, at those states. These noninvasive health monitors may also act passively and in a patient's normal course of life, which enhances many patient's desire to submit to monitoring, as well as increase consistency of use, as in many cases the patient does little or nothing to cause his or her health monitoring and health-trend determination. With health states determined for a consistent patient situation, more accurate and more robust health trends can be determined. In particular, parameters like cardiac rhythm, respiration rate or the spine curvature can be determined using a radar based motion sensing system located in the vicinity of a patient's bed.

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority under 35 U.S.C.§120 to U.S. Invention Patent Application Serial No. 15 / 008,295, filed January 27, 2016, entitled "Health StateTrends for a Consistent Patient Situation," which is filed under 35 U.S.C.§ 119(e) Claims Priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 108,887, entitled "HealthState Trends for a Consistent Patient Situation," filed January 28, 2015, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference . Background technique [0003] Medical assessments have traditionally been performed with a single or several assessments by a trained provider. Usually these evaluations are done in a hospital or physician's office. These measurements are often incomplete, leading to failure to detect disease at an earlier stage when treatment is more effective. This is partly due to the fact that the assessment is performed as some snapshot in the continuous statistics ...
