Abstract

An apparatus includes a first inductive segment including a first core and a first coil on the first core. The second induction section includes a second core and a second coil on the second core. The first core includes track extensions, wherein at least two of the track extensions extend from opposite ends of the first core. The second core includes shoe portions at respective ones of the rail extensions, wherein a gap is provided between each of the rail extensions and a respective one of the shoe portions. The second sensing segment is configured to move relative to the first sensing segment in a path along the extension. The first inductive segment is configured to induce a current in the second inductive segment, including providing non-contact inductive coupling between the first inductive segment and the second inductive segment as the second core moves along the extension relative to the first core .
