An ordinary camera is used as a collectiondevice to collect wheat images. Through a digital image processing technology, the method for automatically detecting wheat tiller number based on RGB images is designed. The method is as shown in .1 and includes the steps of segmenting the collected wheat RGB images, and extracting the entire wheat from the background; removing wheat stem portions by morphological treatment; and subtracting theentire segmented wheat images by the images having undergone morphological treatment, to obtain images comprising the wheat stems; after edge detection, obtaining discontinuous stems through Hough transformation line detection; connecting collinear line segments into a line segment by filling gaps, and detecting the number of the line segments, to automatically detect the wheat tiller number.
