Abstract

A system and method for managing files is disclosed. The method includes sending by a user, to a server, a request for a file, receiving, in response to the request, an encrypted file and an encryptedfile key associated with the file and the user, decrypting the encrypted file key using a private key associated with the user to obtain a symmetric key, and decrypting the encrypted file using the symmetric key to obtain the file. The files being managed are server resident files for any number of users, where the server is unable to encode or decode file data associated with the server residentfiles.
