Abstract

The inventive UE carrier aggregation (CA) capability reporting signaling model allows the UE (30) to aggregate a large number of component carriers to deliver CA related capabilities to the network more efficiently than the current (legacy) signaling model. Embodiments of the present invention report UE radio frequency (RF) and baseband (BB) related capabilities separately, or report them disassociated from the CA band configuration, instead of reporting CA / MIMO / CSI separately for each supported band combination / NAICS capabilities (including fallback configuration). This approach avoids the need to signal the full set of UEs (30) the capability for each (possibly many) supported band combinations. Furthermore, the fallback capability is implicitly signaled, thereby eliminating the need to transmit this data.
