Abstract

A method of encoding an image including a privacy mask is disclosed. According to a method of encoding a digital image (20) including a privacy mask, information representing pixels in the digital image is received. Pixels are grouped into coding units (22). Information is also received representing a privacy masking region (21) in which a privacy masking is to be applied on said image. All coding units that are at least partially within the privacy masking region are determined, and the privacy masking region is extended to align with the determined coding units (23). For each coding unit (22), a respective quantization parameter for encoding the image (20) is determined. A privacy mask is applied in the extended privacy mask region (24) of the image, and the image (20) with the applied privacy mask (24) is encoded using the determined quantization parameter. A digital image encoding system is also disclosed, as well as a video camera comprising such a system and a computer program product for performing the method.
