Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention provide a method for controlling network traffic in a chat group. The method includes: acquiring a bandwidth usage rate of a chat group server; and when the bandwidth usage rate satisfies a flow control trigger condition, controlling the amount of broadcast packets sent in the chat group, so as to control network traffic. Based on the real-time bandwidth usage monitoring data, the control of the network traffic of the chat group can be adaptively started without manual participation. The method of the present invention makes the number of broadcast packets sent in the chat group controllable, thereby significantly reducing the number of broadcast packets sent in the chat group. Server overload causes the probability of freezing, which brings a better experience to users and reduces network failures in chat groups.
