Embodiment Construction

[0035] A first embodiment of a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine 10 (in Figure 1 to Figure 6) comprises at least one cylinder 12 and a piston 14 arranged in the cylinder 12 such that it can be displaced linearly. Furthermore, the reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine 10 has a crankshaft 16 via which the linear movement of the pistons 14 is converted into rotation. At least one, preferably two intake valves 20 and at least one, preferably two exhaust valves 22 are arranged in the cylinder head 18 of the reciprocating internal combustion engine 10 . Gases, in particular fresh air, preferably fresh air mixed with fuel, may flow through the intake valve 20 into a combustion chamber 24 formed in the cylinder 12 . Gases, preferably combustion exhaust, may flow out of the combustion chamber 24 through the at least one exhaust valve 22 .

Abstract

The invention relates to a valve train for a reciprocating piston internal combustion engine (10). The valve train is equipped with at least one inlet valve (20), at least one outlet valve (22), at least one camshaft (28, 30, 32) coupled rotationally to a crankshaft (16), at least one inlet cam (36) held on a first camshaft (30), at least one outlet cam (38) held on one of the first camshaft (30)or a second camshaft (32), at least one brake cam (40) held on one of the first camshaft (30) or the second camshaft (32), at least one inlet cam follower (42), which may actuate the at least one inlet valve (22) and may be drive-connected at least at times to the inlet cam (36), at least one outlet cam follower (44), which may actuate the at least one outlet valve (22), may be drive-connected atleast at times to the outlet cam (38), and, in a braking mode, may be drive-connected at least at times to the brake cam (40), and a phase shifting device (50) for adjusting a phase position of the brake cam (40) relative to the crankshaft (16).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a valve for a reciprocating internal combustion engine with at least one intake valve and at least one exhaust valve and with at least one camshaft rotationally coupled to the crankshaft of the reciprocating internal combustion engine according to the preamble of claim 1 valve train. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for valve control in a reciprocating internal combustion engine with a valve train of this type. Background technique [0002] Internal combustion engines are commonly used in commercial vehicles to assist braking systems and reduce brake system wear. Various systems are used to improve the braking performance of internal combustion engines. It is known from the prior art to increase the braking performance via a corresponding valve lift curve. Here, for example, additional cams can be activated by cam switching or entirely new valve lift curves can be set. Although an increased braking effect can ...
