Problems solved by technology

[0007] However, due to the wide variation in LAA orifice size and volume, existing implantable devices are often not configured to accommodate such variations, making these devices unsuitable for most LAA anatomies
Additionally, such implantable devices are substantially limited by the orientation through which such implantable devices can be successfully deployed

Embodiment Construction

[0073] see first figure 1 with Figure 1A, a medical device 20 and a distal end portion of a delivery system 22 are provided. The medical device 20 and delivery system 22 may be used for interventional procedures to close and modify percutaneously an opening or cavity in the heart (not shown), such as, for example, the left atrial appendage ("LAA"). The medical device 20 may include a frame member of an occluder portion 24 and an anchor portion 26, the occluder portion 24 further including a tissue growth member 28 attached thereto. Additionally, the anchor portion 26 may be hingeably coupled to the occluder portion 24 such that when the occluder portion 24 is deployed, it can be moved via an actuation mechanism (not shown) at the handle of the delivery system 22. Anchor portion 26 is actuated between a deployed position and a non-deployed position (not shown). With this arrangement, the medical device 20 and delivery system 22 can provide the functionality to separate the...

Abstract

The invention is themed by a medical device for modification of a left atrial appendage and related systems and methods. Devices, methods and systems are provided for occluding an opening within the tissue of a body, such as a left atrial appendage. In one embodiment, a medical device includes an occluder portion and an anchor portion. The occluder portion includes a hub that defines an axis, theoccluder portion extending between a proximal end coupled to the hub and a distal end defining an occluder eyelet adjacent thereto. The anchor portion extends between a first end and a second end, thefirst end coupled to an anchor hub and the second end defining an anchor eyelet adjacent thereto and hingeably coupled to the occluder eyelet. With this arrangement, the anchor hub is moveable alongthe axis to move the anchor portion between a retracted position and a deployed position upon the occluder portion being in an expanded position.
