The invention provides a bus charging system and method. The system comprises a card reader, a card-swiping camera, positioning cameras and a processor, wherein the card reader is arranged nearby an entrance door of a bus and used for reading identity recognition information in a bus card of a passenger; the card-swiping camera is arranged nearby the card reader and used for acquiring a facial image of the passenger; the positioning cameras are sequentially arranged in the bus and used for shooting current pictures in the bus and recognizing the passenger through the current pictures in the bus; the processor is used for performing matching on the identity recognition information and the facial image and deducting the charge this time from bus card balance of the passenger; and under the condition that the positioning cameras recognize the passenger, a corresponding discount amount is returned into the bus card balance of the passenger. Through the bus charging system and method, the position of the passenger in the bus can be known through recognition by use of the positioning cameras, a difference charging mode is adopted to urge the passenger to move towards the rear position inthe bus, and therefore travel safety is benefited.
