Embodiment Construction

[0039] In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth by way of example in order to provide a thorough understanding of the related teachings. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art that the present teachings may be practiced without such details. In other instances, well-known methods, procedures, components and / or circuits have been described at a relatively high level and not in detail in order to avoid unnecessarily obscuring aspects of the present teachings.

[0040] The current teaching discloses a breathing rate monitoring system that can be used to a) measure the breathing rate of a person (who may be moving), b) measure the breathing intensity of a person, and c) estimate the number of people in a particular enclosure.

[0041] The disclosed respiration rate monitoring system is based on readily and inexpensively available off-the-shelf Wi-Fi NICs. Therefore, it can be easily deployed, managed and maintained and can be...

Abstract

The present teaching relates to vital sign detection and monitoring based on channel state information (CSI). In one example, an apparatus for vital sign detection is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a receiver, a processor and a memory communicatively coupled with the processor. The receiver is configured for receiving at least one wireless signal from a multipath channel that can be impacted by a vital sign of at least one living being. The processor is configured for: extracting a time series of channel state information (CSI) for the multipath channel from the at least one wireless signal, obtaining one or more periodic fluctuations based on a spectral analysis of the time series of CSI, and determining whether the vital sign is present based on the one or more periodic fluctuations.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims U.S. Patent Application No. 62 / 307,081, filed March 11, 2016, entitled "TR-BREATH: TIME-REVERSAL BREATHINGRATE ESTIMATION AND DETECTION" and filed April 1, 2016, entitled "TR-BREATH: TIME-REVERSAL BREATHING RATE ESTIMATION AND DETECTION," US Patent Application No. 62 / 316,850, both of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. technical field [0003] Current teachings generally relate to vital sign detection and monitoring. More particularly, the current teachings relate to vital sign detection and monitoring based on channel state information of wireless channels. Background technique [0004] Vital signs are important indicators of a person's health and well-being and predictors of a person's acute medical conditions and chronic disease states. One of the most important vital signs is respiratory rate, which can be measured by the number of exhalations and inhalations a pe...
