Embodiment 1

[0065] Additional Example 1. A method for enabling a circuit feature on an integrated circuit device having the circuit feature to be inactive, the method comprising: receiving at an input / output (I / O) terminal of the integrated circuit device an encrypted message and signed digital signature; decrypting said encrypted message at a data decryption block on said integrated circuit device using a public key to obtain a decrypted message, wherein said decrypted message identifies a circuit feature of said integrated circuit device to be used ; and after decrypting the encrypted message, enabling the inactive circuit feature on the integrated circuit device identified by the decrypted message.

[0066]Additional Example 2. The method of additional embodiment 1, wherein enabling the disabled circuit feature comprises: blowing at least one fuse on the integrated circuit device, the fuse corresponding to the disabled circuit feature identified by the decrypted message circuit chara...

Embodiment 3

[0067] Additional Example 3. The method as recited in additional embodiment 1, further comprising: communicating, at said I / O terminal, said public key to said server.

[0068] Additional Example 4. The method as recited in additional embodiment 1, further comprising authenticating the encrypted message at a message authenticator block on the integrated circuit device using the signed digital signature received from the server.

[0069] Additional Example 5. The method as recited in additional embodiment 1, further comprising receiving at said I / O terminal a message from said server when preventing one of said inactive circuit features on said integrated circuit device from being enabled. wrong signal.

[0070] Additional Example 6. The method as recited in additional embodiment 1, wherein the integrated circuit device receives the encrypted message and the signed digital signature using a Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) transport protocol.

[0071] Additional Example 7. ...

Embodiment 8

[0072] Additional Example 8. A method of enabling a circuit feature on an integrated circuit device using a server, the method comprising: receiving at the server a public key of the integrated circuit device and a license file, wherein the license file identifies all said circuit feature; determine whether the identified circuit feature can be enabled on said integrated circuit device; generate an encrypted message and a signed digital signature; in response to determining that said circuit feature can be enabled, will be used to enable said integrated circuit feature Instructions for identifying circuit characteristics on a circuit device are included in the encrypted message; and communicating the encrypted message and the signed digital signature to the integrated circuit device.

[0073] Additional Example 9. The method of additional embodiment 8, further comprising obtaining a private key corresponding to said public key of said integrated circuit device.

Abstract

A method for enabling a circuit feature on an integrated circuit device having inactive circuit features includes a step to receive an encrypted message and a signed digital signature from a server using an input / output (I / O) terminal within the integrated circuit device. The method also includes a step to decrypt the encrypted message using a public key to obtain a decrypted message using a datadecryption block within the integrated circuit device. Furthermore, the method also includes a step to enable one of the inactive circuit features on the integrated circuit device that corresponds tothe decrypted message after decrypting the encrypted message. The method may be performed by a flexible feature enabling integrated circuit.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to US Patent Application No. 15 / 061790, filed March 4, 2016, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. Background technique [0002] Slow inventory (SMI) is an undesired issue by retailers and manufacturers. However, retailers and manufacturers consider this result to be a persistent and unavoidable problem in running commerce. Furthermore, this turns out to be an even bigger problem (at least in terms of manufacturing costs) when it comes to the industry involved in the manufacture of integrated circuit devices, especially large and specialized devices such as microprocessors and field programmable gate arrays. [0003] One of the reasons for the identification of SMI results in industries related to the manufacture of integrated circuit devices may be the inflexibility in terms of selling the devices, as each device is bound to a specific set of circuit features and further identified by a specific part number . Ther...
