[0030] figure 1 A sectional view through the combing station 2 on the combing machine 4 is schematically shown. In practice, eight such combing stations 2 are arranged side by side. Each combing station 2 comprises a nipper assembly 10 (referred to simply as nippers), the combing station performs a forward and backward movement of the nipper 10 via a front pendulum 12 and a rear pendulum 14 . Front pendulums 12 (only one shown) are rotatably mounted on a circular comb shaft 16 and on a front nipper shaft 18 of the tongs 10 . The rear pendulum 14 is mounted on a rear caliper shaft 20 of the caliper 10 so that it is rotatably movable, and the rear pendulum 14 is connected in a rotationally fixed manner to a driven caliper shaft 22 . The batt 26 is fed to a feed cylinder 24 which is mounted inside the tongs 10 so that it is rotatably movable. The batt 26 is unwound from a lap (not shown) which is positioned on a wind-up roll (also not shown) for the unwinding operation.
