A code reading system capable of signaling exception handling procedures for products being handled in a work environment, such as, for example, consumer product being purchased in a retail store or a product or package being sorted by a logistics company. The system includes a system housing containing one or more one or more signal sources for generating distinctive visual and/or audible exception handling signals for special classes of products identified in the environment. Such special products may include: EAS tagged products requiring EAS tag deactivation: alcohol and tobacco products requiring proof of age; controlled products requiring additional customer tracking; age restricted products requiring identification; product purchases requiring personnel to show up and approve or assist in a product transaction; and the like.

The system allows operators to easily select and implement particular customizable system configuration parameters (SCPs) in a code symbol reading system, based on personal preferences of the system operator, which can lead to more effective scanning performance. The present invention provides a bar-code driven, completely automated, microplate-based analyzer system for performing chemical, biochemical or biological assays. The analyzer is a modular, bench-top instrument that compactly integrates subsystems for sample dispensing, liquid handling, microplate transport, thermal incubation, vortexing, solid phase separation and optical reading. An internal processor is included for automating the instrument, and a user interface to facilitate communication with the operator via a touch-sensitive liquid-crystal display (LCD), and communicating with a remote network via multiple protocols. A system and method wherein mobile nodes scan both 802.16 and 802.11 radio channels for neighbor access points. A mobile node reports both WiMax and WiFi neighbor access points to its parent access point. A parent access point advertises both WiMax and WiFi neighbor access points to child mobile nodes to facilitate faster roaming and load balancing. A parent WiMax AP can direct a mobile node to roam to a neighbor WiFi access point that has a lighter load or offers enhanced services. As an option, a location tracking protocol is used to determine the location of a mobile node and the mobile node's parent AP advertises neighbor APs that offer services in the mobile node's location.

A programmable logic device (PLD) comprises at least one configurable element, and a plurality of programmable logic elements for configuring the configurable element(s). Alternatively, a PLD comprises an interconnect structure and a plurality of programmable logic elements for configuring the interconnect structure. In either embodiment, at least one of the programmable logic elements includes N memory cells. A predetermined one of the N memory cells forms part of a memory slice, wherein at least a portion of each slice of the programmable logic device is allocated to either configuration data or user data memory. Typically, one memory slice provides one configuration of the programmable logic device. In accordance with one embodiment, a memory access port is coupled between at least one of the N memory cells and either one configurable element or the interconnect, thereby facilitating loading of new configuration data into other memory slices during the one configuration. The present invention typically allocates at least one slice to user data memory and includes means for disabling access to at least one of the N memory cells.

Device name conflicts are resolved when adding devices to existing ad hoc networks or when joining two ad hoc networks together. After a connection has been established between a new device to be added and a first member device in the ad hoc network, a name distribution message is transferred by the new device to the first member device. The name distribution message will be passed from member device to member device in the ad hoc network, and at each member device a name conflict check is performed. Device name conflicts are also resolved when joining two ad hoc networks together. The contents of name manager tables of the two respective ad hoc networks must be exchanged. This is accomplished by forming a name distribution message for each name record in the name manager tables of the two devices establishing the connection on behalf of their respective ad hoc networks. Then the name distribution messages formed in each respective ad hoc network are distributed to the other ad hoc network. In the process of distributing the name distribution messages through the other network, any name conflicts are commonly resolved in all of the devices in both ad hoc networks.

An implantable medical device is provided for controlled drug delivery within the bladder, or other body vesicle. The device may include at least one drug reservoir component comprising a drug; and a vesicle retention frame which comprises an elastic wire having a first end, an opposing second end, and an intermediate region therebetween, wherein the drug reservoir component is attached to the intermediate region of the vesicle retention frame. The invention relates to a multi-component fiber having enhanced reversible thermal properties and methods of manufacturing thereof. The multi-component fiber comprises a fiber body formed from a plurality of elongated members, at least one of the elongated members comprising a temperature regulating material dispersed therein. The temperature regulating material comprises a phase change material. The multi-component fiber may be formed via a melt spinning process or a solution spinning process and may be used or incorporated in various products where a thermal regulating property is desired. For example, the multi-component fiber may be used in textiles, apparel, footwear, medical products, containers and packagings, buildings, appliances, and other products.

A medical instrument used for closing an opening for surgery in which a trocar is used, and a method of securely closing the opening. The instrument includes a hollow tube, into which is inserted an elongated actuating mechanism, having at least two needles that can be positioned in a closed or an open position. By securing a suture on the needles, inserting the instrument into the surgical opening, placing the needles into the open position, withdrawing the instrument through the body tissue, and tying the sutures, a secure closure of the surgical opening can be achieved.

The interface is provided as a cured sheet of a curable material formulated as a blend of a curable silicone binder, and a particulate alumina, i.e., aluminum oxide (Al2O3), filler. The interface is observed to exhibit a thermal conductivity of at least about 0.8 W/m-K and a wet dielectric breakdown strength of at least about 475 Vac/mil.

A muzzle loading firearm projectile is disclosed that is composed of a multi diameter, hollow base solid copper bullet, the rear cavity filled with a material of low-density, and a gas pressure seal that separates the bullet from the powder charge. The majority of the bullet shank has a diameter less than the bore diameter of the firearm barrel to allow for ease of loading and alignment of the barrel and bullet axis; a narrow ring of material larger than the barrel bore diameter but less than the groove diameter is located at the junction of the bullet shank and nose profile that centers the bullet in the barrel and positively positions the bullet over the powder charge regardless of orientation of the firearm. The low-density material filling the rear cavity of the bullet acts as an expansion medium when impacted by the rear gas seal during the firing process causing the hollow shank of the bullet to expand and lock into the barrel rifling.

The regions of the page are displayed within a presentation program executing on a client. A server transfers the page to the client over a network. The server detects state changes and queues information on the state changes. The server further generates an update package including content indicating the state changes and sends the update package to the client. The presentation program in the client renders the information on the state changes to the regions of the page including the dynamic content modified by the content indicating the state changes.
