Embodiment Construction

[0029] The present invention relates to systems and methods for registering one or more images of an anatomical region of a patient in a coordinate system of a medical system, such as a medical device navigation system. In particular, fiducial markers are detected in the presence of catheters and other medical equipment in one or more images. Details of various embodiments of the present invention are described below with specific reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0030] In various embodiments, a medical navigation system such as an electromagnetic tracking and navigation system may provide the presentation of magnetic information obtained from magnetic sensors on an X-ray image (also referred to herein as a fluoroscopic image) at a cardiac catheterization workstation (Cathlab) Ability. To facilitate this, a projection matrix (also referred to herein as a transformation matrix) from the three-dimensional (3D) world to the two-dimensional (2D) X-ray image can be comput...

Abstract

The instant disclosure relates to systems and methods for identifying fiducial markers on one or more images of an anatomical region of a patient. Prior to the identification of the fiducial markers, other objects are identified and removed. In particular, some embodiments are directed toward the detection of fiducial markers in the presence of catheters and other medical devices in a fluoroscopicimage. In such an embodiment, identifying and removing the medical devices from the clinical image aids in properly identifying the fiducial markers.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application No. 62 / 469,423, filed March 9, 2017, which is incorporated herein by reference as if fully set forth herein. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to medical systems, such as medical device navigation systems. In particular, the present invention relates to a system for registering one or more images of an anatomical region of a patient in the coordinate system of a medical system, such as a medical device navigation system. Background technique [0004] It would be desirable to track the position of medical devices as they move within the body so that, for example, drugs and other forms of therapy are administered at the appropriate locations and medical procedures can be completed more efficiently and safely. One traditional means of tracking the position of medical devices within the body is fluoroscopic imaging. In some applications,...
