Problems solved by technology

The quality of an image of a high dynamic range scene, such as an outdoor scene with motion or a nighttime scene with bright lights, may thus be degraded in the image captured by the image sensor compared to the real-time perception of such a scene by humans

[0034] Details of systems and methods according to examples will become apparent from the following description, with reference to the accompanying drawings. In this specification, numerous specific details of certain examples are set forth for purposes of illustration. Reference in this specification to "an example" or similar language means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the example is included in at least the one example but not necessarily other examples. It should be further noted that some examples are described schematically, while some features are omitted and / or necessarily simplified for ease of illustration and understanding of the concept underlying the examples.

[0035] figure 1 A method of processing image data according to an example is schematically shown. Image data represents at least a portion of an image and is captured using image sensor 100 . Image sensors typically include an array of sensor pixel...

Abstract

The disclosure relates to image processing. Image data representative of at least a portion of an image comprising first and second sets of pixels associated with first and second colour channels, respectively, is received. It is determined that a first pixel of the first set of pixels is a saturated pixel. First data based on a value of the first pixel of the second set of pixels is obtained fora first image region comprising the first pixel of the first set of pixels and a first pixel of the second set of pixels. Second data based on respective values of second pixels of the first and second sets of pixels are obtained, based on the first data, for a second image region. The second data is processed to generate output data representative of an estimated value associated with the first colour channel for the first pixel.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to methods and devices for processing image data. Background technique [0002] Image sensors are typically capable of capturing images of scenes with a dynamic range that is smaller than that perceivable by the human visual system, where dynamic range is, for example, the ratio between the pixel intensities of the brightest and darkest pixels within an image. For example, the human eye can perceive a dynamic range in excess of 55dB (decibels), whereas an image sensor may have a dynamic range between 35dB and 45dB. The quality of images of high dynamic range scenes, such as outdoor scenes with motion or nighttime scenes with bright lights, may thus be degraded in images captured by the image sensor compared to real-time perception of such scenes by humans. Contents of the invention [0003] According to a first aspect, a method is provided, the method comprising: [0004] receiving image data representing at least a po...
