Embodiment Construction

[0102] When the synchronization signal bandwidth is smaller than the minimum system bandwidth, a sparse synchronization grid (eg, compared to a channel grid) may be employed to reduce user equipment (UE) initial cell search burden. Some wireless systems may support communication with UEs over an operating bandwidth (eg, UE bandwidth) that is smaller than the synchronization signal bandwidth. Sparse rasterization may lead to synchronization inefficiencies when the synchronization signal bandwidth exceeds the UE operating bandwidth. For example, a UE operating with a UE bandwidth smaller than the synchronization signal bandwidth may acquire random or arbitrary parts of the synchronization signal, or in some cases, no part of the synchronization signal at all, depending on the scheduling and UE rasterization configuration.

[0103] As such, the UE may perform synchronization signal rasterization according to the sub-grid (eg, finer grid definition) that enables cell search on de...

Abstract

The base station can identify that the user equipment (UE) supports operation within a UE bandwidth that is smaller than the synchronization signal bandwidth used by the wireless network to send the synchronization signal. The base station may then generate a synchronization signal grid (eg, a sub-grid) based at least in part on the UE bandwidth being less than the synchronization signal bandwidth. The grid may ensure that portions or specific segments (eg, subbands) of the synchronization signal are captured by narrowband UEs. In some cases, the base station may configure or modify the synchronization signal based at least in part on the wireless network's support for narrowband UE operation. For example, a supplemental narrowband synchronization signal transmitted on additional time and / or frequency resources, a partially decodable wideband synchronization signal designed to allow partial correlation / decoding by narrowband UEs, or concatenated synchronization signal segments (e.g. , in frequency).
