Problems solved by technology

One of the characteristics of 5G and / or NR is that the frequency range goes to higher frequencies than LTE, where more challenging propagation conditions exist, such as higher penetration loss
Beyond that, however, the current discussion points in the direction that beam-level quality measurements per cell may also be required

Embodiment Construction

[0096] Beam-level quality measurements for a given cell, such as RSRP / RSRQ, should be supported in NR to enhance measurement reporting and select or track beams for accessing the network. In LTE, which requires only cell-level measurements, filtering is maintained for each detected cell. For each sample, the UE is required to detect at least a certain number of cells and maintain measurements on at least a certain number of cells. In LTE, these signals used for RRM measurements and cell discovery are not beamformed (as opposed to NR), and it is very likely that, over a period of and the change in the number of filtered cells will be small. Therefore, the UE can easily update its list of filters for each cell. However, NR introduces unresolved issues.

[0097] For example, in NR, the wireless device (eg, UE) would likely be required to filter RSRP measurements per beam per cell. In other words, UEs may be required to maintain beam-level filters in addition to cell-level fil...

Abstract

A method for use in a wireless device comprises the steps: detecting a first set of beamformed signals from one or more cells. The method further comprises allocating beam-level filters of the wireless device to a subset of beamformed signals of the first set of beamformed signals based on the detected beamformed signals. The method further comprises monitoring the subset of the first set of beamformed signals using the allocated beam-level filters. A wireless device comprises one or more interfaces, memory, and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry is configured to execute instructions stored in the memory, whereby the wireless device is configured to perform the method above.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to managing beam-level measurement filtering. Background technique [0002] Measurement Models in LTE [0003] In Long Term Evolution (LTE), at the serving network node (e.g., evolved NodeB (eNB)) based on the radio quality of different cells, based on events configured at the served wireless device (e.g., User Equipment (UE)) Make a switch decision. These measurements are performed based on cell-specific reference signals in order to derive cell quality. [0004] In LTE, UEs use cell-specific reference signals (CRS) and synchronization signals (PSS / SSS) to identify cells and perform radio resource management (RRM) measurements to derive cell quality. Importantly, the measurements are performed in a limited time, therefore, depending on the channel conditions and noise level, the wireless device (eg UE) is expected to meet certain RRM requirements for both in...
