Embodiment 1

[0345] VSP packages with top and bottom webs made of films of the invention ( figure 1 )

[0346] Vacuum skin packs were manufactured on a Rollstock Darfresh® machine (R272CD from Multivac) with both the top and bottom webs made of film 8 (25 microns thick). The film is supplied from two rolls and is supplied to the machine with the sealing layers a) facing each other.

[0347] The thermoformed bottom is rectangular (250 mm long x 145 mm wide, 5 mm deep).

[0348] The machine speed was 6.4 cycles / minute and the applied vacuum was set below 15 mbar with a vacuum time of 1 second.

[0349] The temperature of the dome was 230° C., and the height of the dome was 10 mm.

[0350] The product packed in it is two sausages, weighing a total of about 170 g.

[0351] Such as figure 1 As seen in , the top web completely surrounds the product as a skin without forming unwanted self-sealing or unsealed areas, thereby providing an airtight and secure seal.

Embodiment 2

[0353] VSP package with C-PET foamed thermoformed bottom web ( Figures 2A-2C )

[0354] In these packages manufactured as described in Example 1, the top web was Film 8 (25 microns thick) and the bottom web was a foamed C-PET web (600 microns thick).

[0355] The thermoformed bottom is rectangular and has the following dimensions:

[0356] Package 2A: 250 mm long x 145 mm wide, 5 mm deep;

[0357] Package 2B: 250 mm long x 145 mm wide, 15 mm deep;

[0358] Package 2C: 250 mm long x 145 mm wide, 30 mm deep.

[0359] The products packaged therein are pork loin slices (2A), pork chops (2B) or chicken breasts (2C).

[0360] From these pictures it can be seen that the top web has perfect body-to-body adhesion even in the case of jagged irregular products (2B) or deep pallets (2C).

[0361] Packages 2A to 2C of the present invention do not exhibit the defects of prior art packages (e.g. bridging and unsealed areas - see Figure 3A and 3B - ie a picture of a VSP package made ...

Abstract

The present invention relates to the use of dual ovenable biaxially oriented polyester films in vacuum skin packaging applications. Furthermore, the invention relates to preferably dual ovenable skinpackages, in particular to preferably dual ovenable vacuum skin food packages for cook-in applications. Due to the very high formability, the VSP packages of the present invention do not show the defects of prior VSP ovenable packages such as self-sealing of the top web or unsealed areas around the packed product.

Description

[0001] describe. technical field [0002] The present invention relates to the use of oriented polyester films in vacuum skin packaging applications. Furthermore, the present invention preferably relates to dual ovenable skin packaging, particularly preferably dual ovenable vacuum skin food packaging for culinary-in-package applications. Background technique [0003] Cook-in-packs, i.e. packages in which food can be cooked directly in the package, in a microwave or conventional oven, in boiling water or steam, are becoming more popular as it reduces the time spent in meal preparation , is highly effective, requires no culinary skills and allows for better portion control. [0004] Plus, if cooking is done in a complete package, the kitchen and oven stay cleaner, cooking times are often reduced, unpleasant odors and juices are not released, and the flavor of the product is preserved. [0005] In certain applications, such as in the case of fresh fish products, cooking-in-pa...
