Problems solved by technology

Often, but not always, these additional clinical inputs cannot be sensed with the device, but instead require direct observation by the caregiver
Manually typing these clinical observations into the patient's EMR using the EMR computer requires more time for the caregiver

Embodiment Construction

[0059] refer to figure 1 , the healthcare information system 10 is installed in a healthcare facility having a plurality of wards 12 . In the illustrative example, two patient rooms 12 are shown for discussion purposes; however, it should be understood that typical healthcare facilities have more than two patient rooms 12 . Each patient room 12 includes a patient support device 14 . Patient support device 14 is shown as a hospital bed; however, other patient support devices such as benches, stretchers, wheelchairs are contemplated by this disclosure and are sometimes present in patient room 12 as well. Each exemplary patient bed 14 supports a patient 18 thereon. A nurse 20 is located in one of the patient rooms 12 to assess the respective patient 18 .

[0060] The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods that allow a caregiver 20 to record vital sign data (ie, vital signs) into a patient's electronic medical record (EMR) in an EMR system. In connection w...

Abstract

A charting system is provided for use in a healthcare facility having a network. The charting system includes a microphone to receive voice inputs from a caregiver. A vital sign monitor obtains a vital sign from a patient and displays it. The system includes a communication device having a voice-to-text module that includes a processor coupled to the microphone. The processor operates a voice-to-text algorithm that converts the vital sign into text in response to the caregiver dictating the vital sign into the microphone. The processor initiates transmission of the vital sign to an EMR computer via the network after conversion of the at least one vital sign to text.

Description

[0001] This Chinese patent application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 724,752, filed August 30, 2018, which is incorporated herein by reference. Background technique [0002] The present disclosure relates to healthcare information technology systems, and more particularly to healthcare information technology systems having electronic medical record (EMR) systems and real-time location systems (RTLS). More specifically, the present disclosure relates to recording a patient's medical information, such as vital sign information, into the patient's EMR. [0003] Nurses in healthcare facilities are required to record patient vital sign data and other information into their assigned patient's electronic medical record (EMR). Typically, a caregiver uses the EMR computer to key the data to be recorded into each patient's EMR. It takes time for caregivers to manually enter the required data using the EMR computer. Vital signs to be entered into a patie...
