Benefits of technology

An improved way to study how different types of tissues behave when subjected to stress or strains has been developed by applying special techniques such as sonic waves near neurons that emit light signals from their surrounds. These measurements help us better interpret these results into more accurate assessments about them's ability to withstand damage caused during various processes like driving cars on roads.

Problems solved by technology

This patented technical problem addressed in this patents relates to understanding how nerves behave differently when they move through their environment during normal activities like walking, but current methods cannot accurately measure these physical characteristics without causing damage from external factors outside the subject being studied.

Abstract

The invention discloses an elastic imaging method and device for measuring anisotropic elastic properties of nerves. The method includes the following steps: allowing a subject to adopt a certain fixed body position, and keeping the body position stable; respectively placing an ultrasonic probe along a nerve fiber direction and a direction perpendicular to the nerve fiber direction; in the above two cases, emitting simulation to the nerves in a certain way; performing imaging on nerve fiber/nerve cross sections by using the ultrasonic probe at a certain pulse repetition frequency, and obtaining a particle velocity field by a signal processing process; and further obtaining nerve wave propagation in two cross sections, and analyzing the wave propagation signals to obtain results for characterizing anisotropy of the nerves to be tested. The method can characterize the anisotropic elastic properties of the superficial peripheral nerves with larger diameters in a non-destructive, non-invasive and quick manner, the measured parameters can quantitatively describe the anisotropy of the nerves, and early diagnosis of nerve-related diseases can be performed.
