Embodiment Construction

[0033] refer to figure 1 , one embodiment of work vehicle 10 is depicted as a feller buncher. Work vehicle 10 includes a chassis 12 , a cab 14 connected to chassis 12 , an articulating boom assembly 16 pivotally connected to chassis 12 , and a tree treatment head 22 pivotally connected to articulating boom assembly 16 . The connections between tree treatment heads 22 depend on the type of tree treatment head 22 . In one embodiment, the tree handling head 22 is a feller head 222 and the feller head 222 is connected to the end of the articulating boom assembly 16 by a horizontal pin about which the feller head 222 can be tilted. In another embodiment, the tree treatment head 22 is a grip saw head 224 (such as Figure 4I ), and the grab saw head 224 is connected to the end of the articulated boom assembly by a vertical pin around which the grab saw head can rotate. There is at least one operator control member 142 in the cab 14 . Operator control components 142 provide an int...

Abstract

A tree processing system may include a tree processing head and a controller. The tree processing head may include a header frame, a motor, a saw, an arm, and a sensor. The saw is used to cut a tree when the saw is driven by the motor. The saw engages with the tree from a first position and to a second position. The first position and the second position define a cutting zone therebetween. The sensor is used to detect a saw operation speed or current. The controller is coupled to the sensor and configured to determine whether the second position is reached based upon an increase of the saw operation speed or current detected by the sensor. When the second position is reached, the controller transmits a resting signal to the tree processing head to perform a resting operation.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure generally relates to tree treatment systems. In particular, the tree handling system includes a tree handling head for cutting and gripping trees. Background technique [0002] Tree handling heads may be of various types including felling heads which separate standing tree trunks and grippable saw heads which separate felled trees. Logging heads also include two types: one type is disc-sawn logging head and the other type is pole-sawn logging head. The former utilizes a circular saw that turns about an axis fixed within the circular saw felling head. The latter utilize pole saws to cut trees. [0003] For pole-sawn felling heads and grippable saw heads, commanding the saw guide or grippable saw head for pole-sawed logs takes longer than the time it takes for the tree to separate because the saw head obstructs the view of the tree cutting area. More. During this entire travel, the operator has no way of knowing where the saw ...
