Abstract

The embodiment of the invention provides a message forwarding method and device, the method is applied to a BIER node, and the BIER node comprises a native BIFT and a group of derived BIFTs corresponding to the native BIFT. For the BFER indicated by each BFR-id, the number of equivalent paths formed by a neighbor router NBR reaching the BFER in each derived BIFT and the BFER is smaller than or equal to a preset value, and the total number of equivalent paths formed by the NBR reaching the BFER in one group of derived BIFTs and the BFER is equal to the number of equivalent paths formed by the NBR reaching the BFER in the native BIFT and the BFER. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a first BIER message, wherein the first BIER message comprises a first bit string; selecting one derived BIFT from the group of derived BIFTs to serve as a target derived BIFT; performing bit AND operation processing on the first bit string and each bit string in the target derived BIFT to obtain a second bit string; and generating a second BIER message based on the second bit string, and forwarding the second BIER message.
