The 75 Hz linear line interpolation and field frequency boosting method for digital TV includes two parts of linear line interpolation to change the 625 scanning lines of source signal into 833 scanning lines for high vertical definition, and field frequency boosting to change field frequency from 50 Hz into 75 Hz. The linear line interpolation incudes 4-to-3 sampling to combining interlaced scanning signal into progressive scanning signal, producing 3 interpolated lines between each two lines through linear interpolation, producing progressive scanning signal of 833 line vertical definition via 1-to-3 sampling, and dividing the progressive scanning signal into two fields of odd field and even field. The field frequency boosting may be completed through one of three methods. The progressive video signal after motion compensation algorithm has good image edge characterstics.
