The present disclosure relates to a method for controlling a steering assist system (150) of a vehicle (100). A fluid flow supplied by a fluid pump (500) is controlled to generate a steering assist force to wheels (102) of a vehicle (100) based on a signal indicative of a road characteristic of a road segment.
