Embodiment Construction

[0027] Physical medical component sizing systems and methods are described herein. As described herein, an example medical element management system may instruct a display device to render a virtual medical element (e.g., a mesh patch for a hernia) representing a physical medical element (e.g., , a virtual mesh patch), where the target region delineates the anatomical surface to be covered by physical medical elements. When the virtual medical element is rendered over the target location, the medical element management system may receive user input setting at least one of a pose of the virtual medical element within the image and a size of the virtual medical element. Based on the user input and the depth data representing the depth map of the interior space, the medical element management system can determine the physical size of the physical medical element.

[0028] The systems and methods described herein advantageously facilitate optimal sizing of physical medical elemen...

Abstract

An exemplary system is configured to instruct a display device to render a virtual medical element representing a physical medical element over a target location within an image of an interior space of a patient, the target location depicting an anatomical surface to be covered by the physical medical element; when the virtual medical element is rendered over the target location, receiving a user input that sets at least one of a pose of the virtual medical element or a size of the virtual medical element within the image; and determining a physical size of the physical medical element based on the user input and depth data representing the depth map of the interior space.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 911,851, filed October 7, 2019, entitled "PHYSICAL MEDICAL ELEMENTSIZING SYSTEMS AND METHODS," the contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. Background technique [0003] Computer-assisted surgery systems are commonly used to perform hernia repair procedures in patients. As part of a hernia repair procedure, a mesh mesh can be placed over the hernia and attached (eg, sutured) to the tissue surrounding the hernia. As the tissue heals, the mesh patch can provide support to the damaged tissue. [0004] During a hernia repair procedure, a surgeon interacting with a computer assisted surgery system must determine the proper size of the mesh mesh. Once the mesh mesh has been sized (eg, by cutting the mesh mesh from a mesh material), the surgeon must place the mesh mesh at the appropriate location within the patient's body. These and ot...
