Abstract

The invention relates to a positioning and tracking system and method suitable for a tunnel environment. In the system, a positioning tag is set into different communication modes to realize simplex communication or half-duplex communication with a positioning base station; the positioning base stations are uniformly arranged on one side of the tunnel; on the other side of the tunnel, the positioning base stations and the ball machines are alternately arranged at the positions corresponding to the positioning base stations; the position of the positioning tag can be determined by adopting a time difference of arrival method or a time-of-flight ranging method; obtaining an optimal estimation position of the positioning tag by using a particle filtering algorithm; and the dome camera performs tracking according to the optimal estimation position. According to the invention, positioning and tracking of the tunnel with any length and irregular shape can be realized.
