PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction of a battery charger for portable equipment, which enables eliminating generation of standby power at non-charging times, even in the state that an AC plug is plugged into a power plug socket.SOLUTION: The charger includes an AC adapter 1, having a connection 3 to which a portable equipment 2 is connected on one end side, on the other end side, there is provided an AC plug 4 which is connected to the power plug socket, and a switch device 5 for switching AC lines contained within the AC adapter 1, wherein an operator 6 for use in connection detection of the portable equipment 2 is provided, protruding in the proximity of the connection 3 of the AC adapter 1, and the operator 6 is pressed by the portable equipment 2 connected to the connection 3, thereby the switching of the switch device 5 is conducted.
