Embodiment Construction

[0025] Here, preferred embodiments of the present invention are described with reference to the accompanying drawings. In the following description, well-known functions and constructions are not described in detail since they would obscure the invention in unnecessary detail.

[0026] The present invention proposes a paging method that enables a network, namely, UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network), to minimize power consumption of UEs in an MBMS mobile communication system. This paging method is suitable for UE regardless of the state of the UE, ie idle state, CELL_PCH state, or URA_PCH state.

[0027] (1) CELL_PCH state: UE monitors PICH and does not receive other channels such as FACH (Forward Access Channel). Before sending data to UE, RNC transfers UE to CELL_FACH state through paging. Similarly, the UE transitions to the CELL_FACH state before sending data to the RNC. The RNC tracks the location of the UE on a cell basis. The RNC_determined DRX (Discontinuo...

Abstract

A method of paging UEs(User Equipments) on a multimedia broadcast / multicast service (MBMS) service basis in a mobile communication system supporting MBMS. To receive a PCH (Paging Channel) using a plurality of PICHs (Paging Indicator Channels) in a mobile communication system having a plurality of PCHs transmitted in every predetermined periods, for paging UEs requesting a broadcasting service, and the plurality of PICHs transmitted between first and second successive PCHs among the plurality of PCHs. A UE receives a PICH assigned to the UE if the PICH is among the plurality of PIs, determines whether the second PCH corresponding to the broadcasting service will be transmitted by a broadcasting service PI set in an unused part of the received PICH, and receives the second PCH destined commonly for all UEs that determine that the second PCH will be transmitted to the UEs among UEs that receive the PICH.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to a mobile communication system, in particular to a paging method of Multimedia Broadcast / Multicast Service (MBMS). Background technique [0002] In the development of the telecommunication industry, the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile communication system has evolved from providing voice services to also providing multicast multimedia communication capable of transmitting large amounts of data such as packet data and circuit data. Therefore, broadcast / multicast services are booming, where one data source serves multiple UEs (User Equipment) to support multicast multimedia communications. Broadcast / multicast services are classified into Cell Broadcast Service (CBS) which is a message-centric service and MBMS which supports multimedia data such as real-time pictures and voice, still images, text, and the like. [0003] figure 1 is a schematic diagram explaining the structure of a network providing M...
