[0016] best practice

[0017] see Figure 1A , 1B and 1C, a camera 150 is provided on the platform 110 behind the screen 135 and the aperture 155. Camera 150 may be aimed at a scene in front of the screen so that camera 150 views the scene through aperture 155 . The camera 150 is aimed so that the edge 170 of the aperture 155 is visible in its image. Therefore, the field of view of the camera 150 is slightly omitted by the aperture 155 . Note that in device 200, the purpose of screen 135 is to present four indicia in the form of corners 261-264 of aperture 155, and any means effective for that purpose will suffice. For example, a clear glass with markings or a wire frame object. The addition of lines at the corners, as provided by the rectangular aperture 155 or a wiring frame, is beneficial in terms of sensing, they allow the use of interpolation to identify the coordinates of the four corners and thus increase the coordinate measurement relative to direct measurement of t...

Abstract

The position of an object located on a plane is indicated by inputting the calculatedly projected pointing direction on a plane. If the target is known to lie on a contour, the position is specified explicitly. Alternatively, the position of an object can be specified by entering its axial coordinates in successive steps. In another alternative, the image containing the object is translated and/or rotated and the object is again indicated. The two directional projections are then used to determine the position of the target in 2-dimensional space. Directions may be input via a video camera or other means such as one or more radio transmitters.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to systems and methods for inputting information about target locations, and in particular to those systems that use a single photographic image. Background technique [0002] Many computer-based systems require information about the target location. For example, the common mouse is used to select a control or a coordinate on the screen. In which the target position data is entered into a computer in the field of automated videoconferencing systems. For example, a user can aim a camera at an object of interest by simply pointing at the object or by controlling it with a handle. Works according to the many work surfaces on the system in allowing the user to indicate a target without having to use a mouse or joystick but by using common gestures that are typically used to indicate a target to others. [0003] These gesture-based systems require things like voice commands ("command control", essentially a speech-based symb...
