Embodiment Construction

[0020] by reference Figures 2 to 6 , the present invention can be better understood. figure 2 Described is a service change parameter 200 according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. In the exemplary embodiment, service change parameter 200 is an ITU-T H.248 message. And in one exemplary embodiment, the service change parameter 200 includes a service change parameter field 201 and an extension field 203 . In addition, service change parameters can be set to a method, reason, delay, address, profile, version, timestamp or mgcid. In order to group multiple terminal IDs into separate service change commands like image 3 As described, the present invention uses the extension field 203 .

[0021] The service change parameter 200 is a command as part of an ITU-T H.248 message that represents the requested service change. In a preferred embodiment, the service change parameters 200 may include serviceChangeMethod (method of changing service), serviceChangeRe...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of cutting off or restoring service to multiple ephemeral terminals using a single service change command. A set of terminal IDs is sent in a separate service change command. The group of ephemeral terminal IDs may be in the form of a list of terminal IDs, a value range, or a combination of a list and a value range. By including multiple ephemeral terminal IDs in a single service change command, the number of messages required between the media gateway controller (MGC) and the media gateway (MGW) can be reduced. By reducing the number of messages, system bandwidth can be used more efficiently.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims priority to provisional application 60 / 472,811, filed on May 22, 2003. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to communication systems, and more particularly, to a method for changing the state of a terminal service. Background technique [0004] figure 1 A structure 100 of an ephemeral terminal ID according to the prior art is described. The ephemeral terminal ID message 100 includes an X_Prefix 101 and a terminal number 103 . Preferably, X_Prefix 101 is an alphanumeric string and terminal number 103 is numeric. For example, X_Prefix 101 can be an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) prefix, an Internet Protocol (IP) prefix, or a more general ephemeral prefix. [0005] Each terminal has a terminal identifier (also called "terminal ID") that allows the Media Gateway Controller (MGC) and Media Gateway (MGW) to identify the particular terminal. [0006] The terminal ID st...
