Abstract

The present invention relates to a device and method for implanting hair follicle-inducing cells within the scalp. The hair follicle cells are generated by the use of tissue culture process from autologous donor cells. The cells are placed upon a microprojection array for implantation within the scalp utilizing predetermined parameters of angle, density and depth.

Description

Invention field [0001] The present invention relates to the administration and implantation of viable cells to the tissues of patients. More specifically, the present invention relates to a cell implantation system for transdermal delivery of viable cells through one or more cell layers surrounding the body cover of an organism using skin-piercing microprojections, the microprojections preferably being suitable for holding cell. Background of the invention [0002] Hair loss (balding) due to age or disease is a common event. Various methods have been tried to correct this problem. Methods such as wigs, sub-wigs, weaves and even hair sprays have been utilized. These methods try to solve the problem by using makeup to hide or cover up hair loss rather than suspending or reversing the physiological changes that cause hair loss. [0003] Existing techniques that attempt to correct or reverse hair loss have utilized drugs. One notable example is minoxidil (Regaine(R)), which is usuall...
