Embodiment Construction

[0020] Although the preferred embodiment is described in the preferred 3GPP proposed system, they can be used with other radio systems using point-to-multipoint transmission.

[0021] FIG. 2 is an illustration of a preferred HS-DSCH 16 and its associated downlink control channel 13 for transmission of point-to-multipoint (PtM) services. In Figure 2, a group of users UE 1 12 1 ,..., UE J 12 J ,..., UE N 12 N The service on the HS-DSCH 16 is to be received. A downlink common control channel (CCC) 13 is used to allocate the HS-DSCH 16 to users UE 1 12 1 ,..., UE J 12 J ,..., UE N12 N . The HS-DSCH 16 is sent by the base station 10 and sent by the UEs 12 1 -12 N Group reception. UEs such as UEs not logged in to this service×12 X Does not comply with service identification code on CCC 13. Therefore, for this UE, UE×12 X , is not configured to receive the HS-DSCH 16 data.

Abstract

Service data is transferred in a wireless communication system. A first service identification is transmitted for reception by a group of users of a cell in the system. The group of users does not include all of the users of the cell. Each of the group of users receives the service identification. Each of the group of users monitors for a second service identification being transmitted over a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) see description of elements. The service data is transmitted over the HS-DSCH with the second service identification. Each of the group of users detects the second service identification and receives the service data of the HS-DSCH.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of the patent application entitled "Point-to-multipoint service using high-speed shared channel in wireless communication system" submitted on April 30, 2004 with application number 03809802.4. technical field [0002] The present invention relates generally to wireless communication systems and, more particularly, to point-to-multipoint services in such systems. Background technique [0003] It is increasingly desirable to use point-to-multipoint services in wireless communication systems. As shown in Figure 1, in point-to-multipoint, a service is sent from a single point, such as a base station, to multiple points, such as user equipment. Examples of point-to-multipoint services are multimedia broadcast and multicast services. [0004] In systems proposed by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), one proposed channel that could be used for such services is the Transfer Access Channel (FACH). The FACH is a downlin...
