Problems solved by technology

The brackets at the medial-distal range were made very narrow to allow Cohen's second bracket to be inserted without damaging the archwire, which would then create excessive inter-bracket distance, which would impair the delivery to the Desired level of physiologically effective orthodontic force on teeth

Embodiment Construction

[0045] The present invention provides a novel two-part assembly comprising a bracket 30 and an insertable clip 40 . figure 1 A perspective view showing a series of teeth 10 with brackets 30 attached is provided. Bracket 30 has a gingival arm 32 and an occlusal arm 33 projecting from base 31 , which together form a bracket slot 35 extending through bracket 30 generally in a medial-distal direction. The arms 32, 33 of the bracket 30 extend outwards from the base 31 of the bracket 30 first in the labial or buccal direction. When extending outwardly from the full medial-distal width of the bracket 30, the rear arms 32, 33 are generally bent inwardly towards each other to provide a forward gouging that begins to narrow at a point farther from the tooth surface to form along at least Part of the axially extending neck 36 of the bracket slot 35 . figure 1 Arms 32 and 33 are shown extending the entire length of bracket slot 35 . However, it should be understood that the arms 32 , 3...

Abstract

An orthodontic bracket assembly has a bracket (30) having base (31) with a mounting portion for attachment to a patient's tooth (10), and a plurality of arms (32,33) forming a bracket slot (35) to receive a rectangular archwire (20). A clip (40) can be removably inserted into the bracket slot (35) along the axis of the bracket slot (35) and archwire (20), and is retained by the bracket slot (35).The assembled bracket slot (35) and clip (40) form a rectangular channel to removably secure the archwire (20) In the bracket slot (35). Two of the archwire surfaces are engaged by the clip (40) and the remaining two archwire surfaces are engaged by walls of the bracket slot (35).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention generally relates to orthodontic devices and methods for maintaining an orthodontic archwire relative to teeth. More particularly, the present invention discloses an orthodontic bracket having removable clips that can be inserted into bracket slots of the bracket along the axis of the archwire to secure the archwire to the bracket . Background technique [0002] In the field of orthodontics and orthodontic medical equipment, orthodontic brackets are a central component of current orthodontic technology. Orthodontic brackets were first developed by Dr. Edward Hartley Angle in the nineteenth century, and although there have been significant advances in their design, materials, and production processes since Dr. Angle's time, the Biological function remains largely unchanged. [0003] The main functional feature of traditional orthodontic brackets is the archwire slot. The archwire slot is a generally horizontally oriented, outwa...
